The
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday renewed the tenure of the
Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee for a period that
will last twelve months, even as it enlarged the membership of the
committee to thirteen from the earlier six.
This decision was taken at its controversial convention which held at the PDP Secretariat along Aba road.
However, election into national offices of the party was suspended by
the Convention Committee led by Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Daily Post reports that the motion for the renewal of the mandate of
the Makarfi committee to steer the affairs of the party was moved by the
Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu.
In his acceptance speech, Makarfi promised to “sustain efforts in rebuilding, reuniting the lost glory of the party.”
